The Reserve Bank of Australia revealed their new $5 banknote earlier this year on April 12. It officially began circulating on September 1. So keep this in mind when you start seeing this new banknote, but it might take some time for them to be widely circulated.

In a press release Glenn Stevens, Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia said, “Innovative new security features have been incorporated to help keep Australia’s banknotes secure from counterfeiting into the future. On the $5 banknote, these are the Prickly Moses wattle and the Eastern Spinebill.”

The image you see above is a comparison of the old vs new banknote. Below are the new front and back design of the Australian $5 dollar banknote.

"For the first time in the history of Australian currency it will be possible for someone who is blind or vision-impaired to just pick up a note and know instantly what it is," Mr Maguire said, according to ABC Australia News
