How to Beat the Heat During Your Summer Travel

Summer temperatures can make enjoying the outdoors a difficult task. However, there are plenty of ways to stay cool this summer! Here are some great ways to enjoy the outdoors while avoiding the rising temperatures wherever you’re traveling.

Public Pools

Public pools are a fun way to enjoy the summer weather. With low entry fees, locals and visitors alike can enjoy a refreshing swim in a variety of public pools.

Montgomery County, Maryland alone has seven outdoor public pools. Many public pools have lap lanes for those visitors looking to get in some exercise as well as leisurely pools for those who just want to relax. Some even include water slides like the Martin Luth King Jr. Outdoor Pool in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Water Parks

A great way to soak up the sun this summer without overheating is to visit a waterpark. From wave pools to lazy rivers to thrilling water slides, water parks can be a fun activity for the whole family. The U.S. has a variety of water parks from Florida all the way to “The Waterpark Capital of the World,” Wisconsin Dells.

Home to six major water parks as well as a variety of smaller parks and resorts, Wisconsin Dells actually houses the biggest water park in the U.S., Noah’s Ark Waterpark. Covering 70 acres, this water park has over 80 water rides and features for you to enjoy.

Interactive Fountains

If you can’t find any water parks near your travel destination, try looking for interactive fountains or ‘splash pads’ that are great for your little travelers.

Finding splash pads like that at South Germantown SplashPark in Maryland are fun for children and help cool them off after a long day in the heat. Or if you’re on the west coast, Seattle Center International Fountain actually received an award in 2017 for the “Best Splash Pad.”

Don’t forget, playing in the water isn’t the only way to beat the heat during the summer months. Always make sure you’re staying hydrated with plenty of water, especially if you’re traveling somewhere that has a drier climate than you’re used to!
