New Currencies: Laotian Kip and Myanmar Kyat

If you haven’t heard of Myanmar or Laos, then perhaps you’ve heard of their neighbour, Thailand. Similar to Thailand, Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) and Laos also offer a lavish and beautiful getaway to a land full of unique culture, food, and sights.

In 2018 alone, close to 60,000 Americans made their way to Yangon, Myanmar. As for the monastic land of Laos, nearly 70,000 Americans traveled to the country to see its mountains, monasteries, and monkeys...yes, we said monkeys!

Essentially, a lot of tourists are making their way to these two countries to experience an escape that is affordable. According to Dave from the Go Backpacking blog, he only spent anywhere from $10-$15 USD a day in Laos. It’s worth noting that in the time he was there, he was able to enjoy a 3 day river boat cruise, tubing in Vang Vieng, and enough sightseeing to make instagram travelers jealous.
